Dr. Sylvester D. Krakue, Chairman of the Chaplaincy Board of the University of Cape Coast has challenged the youth of this country to make it one of their life’s goals to know their creator and strive to have a close relationship with him.
Preaching on the theme “Get Wisdom and with all thy getting, Get understanding”, at the fresh students’ Akwaaba service held on Sunday (09/08/09), Dr. Krakue, said that the greatest call for mankind is to get wisdom and give all their hearts to it (Him). Dr. Sylvester, who is also the Head of the French Department of the University, told the freshers that although they have been admitted into the university to pursue their respective courses in order to acquire knowledge, it is of absolute importance that they get to know God amidst their academic pursuit, because only the knowledge of God would give them true wisdom. According to him, in today’s day and age, it would be very unwise for mankind to continue living in the delusion that there is no God. While all events of the times clearly show us that we are indeed in the end times which God’s word revealed to us, it would be unwise on the part of any man to overlook the existence and the Sovereignty of God, he added. Dr. Krakue also urged that as prophesies concerning the end times are being fulfilled day in and out, it is incumbent upon mankind to come to the understanding of the times and surrender to God, so we can find a place in the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The service was moderated by Rev. Dr. J. D. Owusu Sekyere, a lecturer at the school of Agricultural Engineering, the campus minister of Harvest Community Church and a member of the Chaplaincy Board. In his opening note, Rev. Dr. Owusu welcomed the fresh men and women not only into the University; but also the Christian Community on campus. He encouraged them to hold fast to their faith in God because that is what would see them through their stay on campus. The service was also graced by The Dean of Students, Rev. Prof. B. A. Ntereh, who commended the students on their discipline and comportment and urged them to continue in same manner adding that such behaviour was necessary to ensure their success in the university. Also present at the Akwaaba service for the freshers were, the Very Rev. Arko Boham, other members of the Chaplaincy Board and representatives from the Students council. |
