The Pentecost Students and Associates of University of Cape Coast climaxed their 20th anniversary in grand style yesterday (27/09/09) at the congregation grounds of the university. The church embarked on a week long holistic program to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Celebrating on the theme “20yrs today, projecting into the future, the way forward”, the church engaged the week with thanksgiving, worship, prayer, candle light procession, music, drama and choreography, Bible quiz, Talks and time with the alumni.

The celebrations began with a Dawn – Prayer Walk on Monday (21/09/09) and in the evening, they were still in a prayer mood with Prayer Galore dubbed “The Seasons of Restoration” at the OLA Chapel. The Tuesday dawn was time to evangelise. The programme was the Hall and area evangelism on the theme ‘The Love of Christ’. The evening was graced with a candle light procession on the theme ‘Moving in the Faithfulness of God’. The programme for the Wednesday evening was a Bible Quiz on the topic “Do all to His Glory”.

The fourth day of the weeklong celebration was time to receive very insightful thoughts from seasoned men of God. It was the Talk Show Night. The First talk was titled “20yrs today; moving on in the Power of God” and the second was “Relationship 101, keeping it pure and honourable”.

On Friday Morning, the Church had a Time with Elder Amos Kevin- Annan on ‘Matters of The Heart’. In the evening, they received another talk on The Christian and Entrepreneurship and Investment. Saturday morning began with a clean up exercise at the UCC hospital and ended with a Musical Show (Praise and Worship Night). The Church also engaged in fun games at the University Field and a wonderful time with the alumni of UCC PENSA during the day.

The main speaker for the Sunday service was Rev. Dr. Anim, Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Pentecost University College. Preaching on the theme for the celebrations, Rev. Anim, called on students to aspire for a higher calling rather than making grades and getting good jobs with good incomes. He said that in moving forward into future, there is the need for us to align our academic success with our divine if we are to make any impact in our generation. According to him, success is not measured by material wealth but rather the impact of that wealth on those around us. Prosperity is meaningless unless it has a bearing on the community where we live. He therefore urged the Church to aspire to the attainment of true success which impacts other people other than selfish simple standards.

Dr. Anim also spoke about fundamental errors he believes needs to be corrected in our country. He said that a lot of the system of this country runs on deception and as youth there is the need for us to arise and build the nation into what we want it to be rather than travelling out to seek greener pastures outside the country.

Speaking on the failure of the Church to give spiritual impact to the world, he admitted that there is a huge gap between the pulpit and the people despite the increase in the numbers of members in the various assemblies of the Pentecost Church. This gap he said has made it difficult for the church to make any impact in communities and the country as a whole. “The church has been called to set high moral and ethical standards and has been established to be different but it is rather unfortunate that corruption, moral decadence and poverty has creped unchecked into the church and it is high time Christians arise to the call to be different and uphold the standards, virtues and principles they stand for in order to make an impact in this country”.

Dr. Anim, who is also an associate Pastor at PIWC Atomic, Accra, beseeched PENSA UCC and the Pentecost Church as a whole to employ every effort to bridge the gap of truth between the pulpit and membership to promote the raising of more impactful Christians to save the nation.

Other activities in the climax service of this important anniversary celebration were a fundraising, a recital on the history of PENSA UCC. The celebration couldn't have been climaxed without the cutting of the anniversary cake to wish PENSA UCC a happy 20th birthday!
